Rod, Those are good prices. I've been keeping an eye out for a "deal." I think I'll continue to wait for someone to be giving one away on ebay. Just wondering whether you have used one of these and what you think. What size do you have and how did you set it up. Joe Volin |

I was looking at those the other day. Those are pretty much the best prices I could find too. It's still expensive, but when I think about all the other moneys I've spent so far, another 500-600$ won't matter all that much in the long run. It just seems I have a lot of other things to buy before justifying the expense... Shaw was right, money is the root of all evil!!! |

note that you have to buy the junction box, and the shutters to put one of these into operation. you may also have to get a guard depending upon your installation configuration. |

Well, here are some pics of my humble little spray booth, it's not totally up to code (I don't have explosion proof lighing, just one twin tube florecent lamp) but the fan is explosion proof. So I have been saying in some previous threads that I have made a semi-knock down spray booth. Well the "semi" part is the two doors which swing into the walls. This still gives me room to use my sander. ![]() Now with the doors open ![]() Here is the fan housing I made ![]() With a high end furnace filter to trap most of the overspray (ya right). And the inside of the housing is the explosion proof fan and the exit hole. ![]() And some shots of a guitar being refinished (this is #3, and the first finish realy sucked, this one has 6 coats of nitro, a couple more than it'll be ready to level I think) ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() There you go. |

Joe, I don't have one of the electric trading company fans, I have one similar, it's a leason brand, 16" dia, rated for 2800+/- cfm (I think, It's on the housing, I'll recheck later). This thing realy works well for my little spraybooth, anthing bigger (booth that is) and I'd need a bigger fan I think. |

Rod, That is a very nice set up. I was thinking more along the lines of the knock down setup that Jeff Jewitt has in his finishing book. Nice job! Are the doors more to keep the dust out or do you think they are necessary to keep the fumes in? Joe |

Joe, the doors do both, or at least that's the idea, there is very little dust problems when spraying at this point so I think the doors have sealed alright. I leave the fan running for about 10-15 mins after spraying so the initial fumes are mostly exhausted. But of course, there is still off gassing so I have been keeping the doors closed and the rest of the shop is mostly fume free. Turning the fan on periodically to clear the fumes from off gasing. Thanks Serge. |

I keep looking for the "cheap" solution...A belt driven fan with the motor mounted on the outside. I can't find one. Anyone know where? ![]() |
